Given some new life circumstances, I had the opportunity to take on a project that I had been thinking about for years - gut renovating a New York City loft in an old factory building. Over the years I had collected images and textural elements that interested me and that i dreamed of incorporating into this new space. It took me a little time to find the ideal space but eventually I came across a 1350 square foot rectangular space offering the clean canvas I needed. I recognized that although I had a very specific and clear vision of what I wanted, I did not have the knowledge or experience to bring all these ideas together and execute on the vision. I was introduced to Mariem through a mutual friend and after spending one hour together and visiting her renovated loft, I was sure she could help me realize the project. I found that Mariem understood exactly what I wanted and was able to expand on the pictures and ideas I brought to her. She did not simply replicate a photo or image; she elaborated on the space with materials and ideas that enriched my original vision. I felt that she was able to do this because of her knowledge of materials and producers as well as her sense of style and design. Our communication was flawless and we were able to work around busy work and holiday schedules. In addition to design, Mariem managed the overall project and she did an extraordinary job. As with most projects, there are unforeseen issues that arise. Mariem worked to resolve every issue that arose, always advocating for me and defending the original budget.

Mariem was my mentor in my last year of my MFA Interior Design graduate program at NYSID and I couldn’t have asked for anyone better. Mariem was very instrumental in helping me through my thesis and was very generous with her thorough advice every time we met. Mariem also took great initiative to follow up with me and send me useful/relevant information and contacts as and when needed. Through working with Mariem, I learned a great deal on materials knowledge, space planning, current design market demand and project management in general.I found her strength in conceptual design very inspiring throughout my process and would absolutely love to work with her again someday.
